This recipe feeds 4 people.

Ingredients:

1 pound of beef chuck cubes or 1 pound of flanken

1 peeled white potato

1 peeled sweet potato

1 cup of Gefen pearl barley

1 package of A&H hot dogs cut into bite size pieces, I like the A&H Jalapeno Hot Dogs

1/4 cup of ketchup, I like the Heinz Simply Heinz

1 tablespoon Pereg paprika

1 tablespoon Pereg onion powder

1 tablespoon Pereg garlic powder

1/2 tablespoon of Pereg white pepper

1 tablespoon Osem Chicken Consomme

1 tablespoon Lior cumin powder

Add in last:

Hot water (this varies) you just want enough to cover all the ingredients

1 egg per person

Frozen jachnun (optional)

As I am getting all my ingredients ready, I have my crockpot heat setting on high. Then I add in all the ingredients except the water and eggs. The amount of water varies. You just want enough to cover all the ingredients. Then after you add in your water, give everything a good mix and then place your eggs gently on top. Right before Shabbat starts, I turn the heat setting down to low and leave the hamin to cook for about 17 hours. Basically the hamin cooks from right before sundown on Friday until lunch time the next day.

Once in a while I will add jachnun to my hamin. I just add one frozen piece of jachnun on top of the hamin. It comes out so soft and fluffy. It's delicious.
